Heeeeeellll yes. Thank you much, Italians. I’m even going to back off from the ethnic slurs for an entire sentence or two. I knew I could count on you to deliver a gigantic belly flop and return me to the black! The slump is forgotten! The experimental new betting system works! Way to flop, wops!

Vladimir Weiss, consider yourself disowned. Poor clearances, timid tempo, and a clumsy touch all afternoon! You completely disgraced your own father on father’s day!! Oh shit. I forgot to call my father. Ooops. Well, “Vatertag” isn’t really a recognized holiday in Germany anyway…is it? They just happen to have a word for it………….Verfickte Überscheiße!! Tud mir Leid, Vatti. LL

I appreciated the way you backed up your mates, Drogba. The appeal for support on the late corner was also a nice touch. The African crowd merits that kind of attention. Still, it looks to be too little late for the tournament’s much sought after African hero.

Much respect for all three crowds this afternoon. The coordinated Vuvuzela cheers were a real joy to watch.

And I almost forgot….The French have surrendered. J I don’t care how clichéd that line is Froggies. I think I’ll write it again. The French have surrendered. Hey everyone! Did you hear? ZE FRENCH HAVE SURRENDERED!

So many sullen Italian girls in the audience today LL Che peccatto pollastretta! L L All of these lonely, melancholy Italian beauties brushing their lovely dark hair away from their piercing dark eyes so as to place a delicate finger on a dour check and exclaim to the heavens “Trageda!!” I know, I know, my little despairing pricipessa. Fa tanto male, più che puoi immaginarti! Please don’t give up hope my sweet alluring darlings. Andrà tutto per il meglio!

British play-by-play announcer Ian Darke was certainly doing his best to sell us their suffering. I count five times that the camera focused in on a group of despondent Italian stunners and Darke practically pleaded with us:

“I say, it doesn’t look as if these lasses are very chirpy this afternoon.”

Gentlemen, our mission is clear! We must come to the rescue of these poor forlorn Italian hotties. We must take them back to our place, light a few well-placed candles, open that bottle of Vercelli Nebbiolo we’ve been saving and put Eros Ramazotti on the stereo. As the light from the candles’ fades, the wine takes its semi-spiritual effect, and Eros launches into “Musica e”, we must tenderly caress these depressed divas and softly whisper in their ear that, yes, the Azzuri will qualify for the round of 16!

And you wonder why I root for Italy to lose!

Anyways, I’d tell the Italian girls not pout…if they were not so godamn sexy when they do it. I fall for it EVERY FUCKING time. LL Probably something very Freudian and very wrong going on in my head, but what else is new? Strong showing, as always, by the Brazilians today. Bravo Kiwis as well, though I saw far too many shirtless fat dudes. Good luck to all syndicate bettors tomorrow. If the preceding passage sets the mood for a little soft-core porn, have fun with that too!

Stream of Consciousness--

Our beloved “Orange Crush” continues the strategy of churning out wins more hideous than Gerd Wilder’s hair, frustrating all of us who touted their talent. For cryin out loud, this is as disappointing as the live sex acts in Amsterdam! You grab your seat and excitedly check out the sightlines. You sip your beverage in fervent anticipation. It begins! Wow. Interesting what she can do with that candle. Nice tricycle from Dirk Kuyt. Massive Attack is always a good choice of music. Nigel de Jong exhibiting some nice midfield movement. Time passes. In the fifteenth minute you let out a yawn. In the twentieth minute you order another drink. Finally, between the 25th and 32nd minute, you glance at your watch and wonder what the monkeys at the zoo are up to. Eerie how parallel the timing is. Anyone want to go to the zoo? If the monkeys aren’t in the mood, there are always the tortoises! Those things live for one hundred years of straight fucking.

It’s official. This Afrophile is now in the red L Not entirely worried about my own personal situation. I can always bounce back, but what is with these African teams? I often attributed Africa’s underachieving in WMs to the fact that the teams were always in such disarray. Every world cup, players were not being paid, coaches were walking out, and teams were staying in no frills motels akin to Motel 6 minus the toilet paper/shower curtain. This was supposed to different! Should have known not to ignore the “Don’t bet on the Home Teams” articles conspicuously placed in all of the world’s newspapers. Should have reminded myself that Sven Goran Eriksson is coaching Cote d’Ivoire and Otto Pfister is coaching Cameroon. A valiant effort by the Black Stars today, but to no real avail. After watching today’s sordid Cameroon game, I am convinced we need to get Pfister out of Africa for good. He would make a halfway-decent fry cook down at the “Wienerwald”.

Who will be Africa’s hero in this tournament? The continent sorely needs one. Drogba was a real life Rocky, almost literally bringing a civil war in his country to a halt. (and he didn’t even have to knock out Ivan Drago). Thus far, over 20 Somalis have been killed by the al-Shabab for the unforgivable crime of watching World Cup games. (Potential child soldiers watching football? Can’t have that! Target practice for them!). Still, the Somalis are defying the ban in large number in order to watch their African teams. How much does it say about the African people that they are willing to risk death to catch a glimpse of a Sub-Saharan star bring a bit of glory to their continent? They need their heroes. They deserve better. Someone must rise up!

Meanwhile, Americans continue to drone on about the fact that they are discriminated against because Africans resent their wealth and power. This brings me to……….

The Morning After—Thoughts on a Conceited Rant

Has the time come for me to admit that I can be an arrogant, pretentious, and condescending bastard? Absolutely. Would I change a single word of my little “Man-up” Speech from yesterday? Absolutely not! This morning I crawled out of bed and immediately proceeded to cannibalize the papers. Every respected daily in this country is running a headline to effect of “Anger makes U.S. Fans Finally care about Soccer.” Excuse me one second. WHAT THE ZARKING FUCK?!?!?! The headlines might as well of read: “Americans find Something Else to get Angry About. Anger Good!”. As usual, we have rage over something few know anything about. What a nightmare. I hope I speak for many a football fan when I say: “We want more Americans!” We want your passion, wit, and cleverness in the stands with us. We want to sing dueling drinking songs and exchange sharp derogatory cheers. We want to get together for the match this afternoon and discuss team selection and tricks over a pint. As an American with far too many obscure European genes and tastes, I want it more than anyone. I surely do not want another SMS from someone whining that football needs instant replay or that America can never be expected to be treated fairly by a malicious and unfair world (boo—hoo—hoo). I feel so sorry for the most prosperous nation in the world!

Join the party, yanks. You’ve had the team for several years now. Find the wag.

Forget the howling over Edu’s disallowed goal, we’ve got our own controversy brewing here in the “Chicas” Competition. Earlier this week, syndicate member Sipe e-mailed me with a scandalous report involving the five buxom Dutch Blondes bidding me a good morning last Monday. Apparently, these girls and their suggestive orange mini-skirts were part of an “Ambush Marketing” campaign undertaken by the German-sounding, but very Holland based “Bavaria Brewery.” Not one of FIFA’s official sponsors, the mole advertisers were discovered by officials midway through the first half and ejected from the stadium.

I’ve corroborated this report as published in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Guardian. Many thanks to Dr. Sipe for giving a young man behind on his newspapers a heads up. I’ve given this careful consideration. Blitz advertising is a disdainful practice. However, FIFA’s ruthless enforcement of its copyright practices in addition to its despicable, militant, and pugnacious treatment of women has allowed the problem to take care of it itself. I refuse to believe that gorgeous women should be expelled from any sporting venue for any reason. Furthermore, in case you missed it, FIFA dolled out an especially harsh punishment: No good-looking Dutch women were to be filmed today. It came down from above. Only one was filmed inadvertently. This is a complete disaster. Initially, I thought of deducting points from the Dutch. Now I almost feel I should be awarding them some. In any event, do note the Dutch handicap. We will proceed without interfering.
IN OTHER NEWS: Stupendous comeback for the Aussies! (From 0 to 9 in one game!). The Danes proved they are taking this seriously, bringing every stereotypical tall Nordic blonde along for the ride. People of Denmark! I apologize for every pun I ever used to mock your country. Dürfen wir noch Freunde sein? JJJJ

Peter Weis gets Self-Righteous and Lectures Americans…..again.

Heartbreak hour for football fans on both sides of the Atlantic today. Spaniards, French, Germans, English, and Americans could easily get together and fill several mugs with their freshly secreted tears. While this may be a physical possible, it is not an option. I repeat, IT IS NOT HAPPENING! Would you like to know why? I believe you already do. Because, much like Chuck Norris, football fans DO NOT CRY! There’s no crying in football! Okay, maybe there is actually quite a bit of crying in football. Your country may fail to qualify for the world cup, shattering your entire country’s dreams for a full four years. Your hometown team may be relegated to the country’s third league, forever plunging you and your surroundings into long-term obscurity. Despite all of this, after studying many a football message board, I have a very direct message for American fans: MAN-UP!! NOW!

It is a great pleasure to see Americans getting passionately engaged in football, but dropping endless vitriolic “n-bombs” is inexcusable, even by my standards. This is the realm of the world’s game. Eventually, it’s everyone’s turn to get screwed over by a questionable call. Happened to the Germans this, morning. Do you see me suggesting all Spaniards should be strung up? I know how shitty it feels to get sucker punched, but most of you can’t even name your starting eleven. Is this the American way? You get outraged over something that you could care less about a couple of hours ago? You absolutely must find an anti-American conspiracy…..everywhere? Let’s show the world a little more class and character, or at least some better-written insults. Vent over your legitimate grievance. At the end of the day, however, take it like men and move on. You still have a very good chance to make the Round of Sixteen. That is, IF you stop whining, bitching, and moaning like a bunch of infantile Frenchmen. At the very least, save some anger for the team that allowed Slovenia to score on them….twice.

Ugly middle-aged women holding ludicrous signs proclaiming “We are the Yanks!” notwithstanding, the Americans make a sound appearance. An unbelievable show of resilience from the American fans! I would venture to say there is no other country on earth that can overcome such a preponderance of doofuses in the stands to shoot up to the top of the hot girl standings. Some of the more painful appearances included a bunch of shirtless U.S. youth’s holding a sign asking, “Where is the Quarterback?”, all of those photos of Lincoln/Washington, and the top-hats/fake beards of “Uncle Sam” impersonators. Much to learn for U.S. fans, rich enough to travel but too new to have some historic dignity. They’ll get there.

Free Advice for Bob Bradley, Fabio Cappello, Joachim Löw

All of my countries were not completely victimized by bone-headed officiating today, they also suffered from coaching that made me throw up in my mouth. Torres in the starting eleven? Marin for Özil? Crouch in the 84th Minute? This afternoon appears as good a time as any for me to draw the shades, go to bed early, and catch up on some much-needed sleep. Before I do, I insist on some radical changes to your lineups. The absence of Klose and Findley give both Badley and Löw opportunities to give other strikers an opportunity. I want to see Cacau, Kießling, Crouch, Buddle and Gomez starting!!!! Much more to come, after I catch up on about 13 hours of sleep…..
