WM 2010--Day Seven Recap

Day 7
WM 2010
Record—
Spread: 9-11
Straight up: 10-3-7

We are finally seeing some truly enthralling football. I count a streak of six straight electrifying matches! As lethargic as some of the initial matches were, there was never any doubt that the beautiful game would rise up and entertain. Looks as if my favorites to win it all are already in fifth gear, despite the fact that Maradona insists on keeping everyone on tenderhooks. In case you missed it, Maradona told Pele to “Go back to the Museum.” He also brushed off the French, dismissing them as “People who think they are better than anyone else.” He may have been right about the latter, but bear in mind this is the same guy who called the pedestrian he ran over with his car a “prick”. Other than myself, there is no one else in the world harder to shut up.

You’ve got to feel for the Super Eagles. Kaita’s Red Card, Obasi’s wide open miss. The two injuries to Ogbuke and Odemwingie. Everything that possibly could have gone wrong happened. Unlike skyrocketing Greek bond yields, this complete meltdown was in no way foreseeable. L L Looks like the Hellenic Gods decided to intervene today. Keep your heads up, Big Green J

The French shall no longer be referred to as “Les Bleus”. Instead, they shall henceforth be referred to as “Les Merde”. Way to go, Domenech!~ This is what happens when you pick you players on the basis of astrology. Bon Voyage!

Looks as if it’s the South Korean’s contest to lose at this point, but keep in mind that they may not get out of their group!! I expect more from the Germans, Aussies, Danes, Ivorians, Chileans, Cameroonese, and Spanish. A second critical match is the perfect eexuse to focus on the fans!
