Certainly not the Germans/Aussies fault that their honies were not showcased. Quite the enthralling match played by the two sides! There was simply no time to concentrate on the female fans! Surprise showing by the Algerians. Ghanians, you are amazing. What a show of support, let alone the ladies! We now have three countries in our top five that I frankly would not have expected.

Thoughts on the Debut of Jürgen the German—

Say what you will, I’m calling it a robust debut for Klinsi! For those of you not presently residing in the states, Jürgen Kilnsmann began his career as an ESPN analyst today and completely outfoxed Alexi Lalas (as if that is somehow difficult). Perhaps Lothar Matthäus, Joseph Ratzinger, and my father have lowered my expectations for a German’s English ability, but I thought Klinsi was eloquent, insightful, and poignant.  Hervorragend, Herr Klinsman! Here are my top-five lines:

1) “It’s all about the having of the fun”.

2) “The one guy needs a hug, the other guy needs the talking to.”

3) “If Germany doesn’t make the semi-finals, the coach has the issue.” (Damn right!)

4) “The timing of the runs is the key to the fluent movement of the players and thereby the key to everything.” (No shit, but better than the Americans come up with)

5)  “Germany will be prepared. Germany is always prepared.” (Indeed, we are like the Girl Scouts. We are always prepared!)

God bless the Krauts and their tendency to over-translate definite articles! Ich bedanke mich für eure Grammatik!

Stream of Consciousness—

At long last we are up and running. Thanks so much, Jungs! Thank you for ultimately showing the world how the game is played and why it is a joy to watch! The well-oiled German machine is up running. Now it’s your turn…Spanish, Italians, Brazilians, and Dutch! Should be more open from here on out. Simply awesome showing by the Ghanian fans today.

Way to go Africa! You have the first of what will hopefully be many “Hometown Continental” victories on your own soil. Ghana remains one of the classiest countries ever to set foot on the pitch. Recall when John Paintsil pulled the Israeli flag out of his shorts? We love you, Black Stars! As a German, I can attest to the flag that (quite literally) we are brothers!
